A Message That Reached the Ends of the Earth
More than 1400 years ago, the Prophet (peace be upon him) told the world that he would have the greatest number of followers. According to Pew Research Centre, “There are more than two billion Muslims worldwide, representing approximately a quarter of the world’s population.” This prophecy has come true. They believe in him, love him and follow every bit of him. His message has now been delivered to over 200 countries. His extraordinary life of simplicity, serenity and success has a mysterious sway over people’s lives. His laws, manners and morals have influence.
More than 100 billion humans have walked this globe, but who has achieved more than Muhammad (peace be upon him)? Throughout history, he has demonstrated that he is living, and his message is life-giving. Today, Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) legacy lives on, continues to grow as it envelops the globe. Read these beautiful nuggets of prophetic wisdom, educate, learn and be inspired.
The Beautiful Bouquet
The Messenger (peace be upon him) once said in a gathering, ‘I would love to meet my brothers’. The disciples asked him, ‘Are we not your brothers?’ He replied, ‘You are my disciples, and my brothers and sisters are those who will believe in me without seeing me’ (Ahmad).
Scholars said this hadith shows the permissibility of longing for something, especially for goodness and for meeting righteous people. The Prophet’s words “I would love to meet my brothers” mean that he wished to see us in this worldly life. The relationship is not one-sided. We speak about later Muslims longing to see the Prophet (peace be upon him), but this hadith tells us that the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself expressed a longing to see those faithful believers who would come after him. We are not like his wonderful companions, but remarkably, the Messenger (peace be upon him) gave faithful Muslims of later generations another intimate title: “my brothers.”
Abdul Rahman narrates in another hadith that his father asked the Messenger (peace be upon him), ‘What is your opinion about those who believe in you as the Prophet of Allah but haven’t seen you?’ The Messenger (peace be upon him) replied, ‘There is good news for them, and they are from among Us’ (Tabarani).
Abdul Rahman also narrates that the Messenger (peace be upon him) said, ‘Good news for those who saw me and believed, and seven times more good news for those who haven’t seen me yet but will believe in me’ (Ahmad).
Abu Ubaida was once having breakfast with the Messenger (peace be upon him) and asked him, ‘Is there anyone better than us? Since we believed and stood shoulder to shoulder with you on the battlefield? The Messenger (peace be upon him) replied, ‘Yes, there are those who will come after you, and they will believe in me without having seen me’ (Ahmad).
Abdul Rahman Ibn Aoula narrated that the Messenger (peace be upon him) said, ‘In the last days there will be people of my community who will have the reward of the first people; they will enjoin good and forbid evil, and fight those who terrorise others’ (Baihaqi).
Abu Huraira narrated, I heard the Messenger (peace be upon him) say, ‘If my people are committed to their religion, they will not be harmed by their enemies’ (Muslim).
Abu Huraira further narrates that the Messenger (peace be upon him) said, ‘I swear by Allah in whose hand is the life of Muhammad that a day will come when I will no longer be with you; there will be those who would love to see me more than they love their family and wealth’ (Muslim).
The more we follow the Prophet’s Sunnah, the greater the evidence of his love. It also explicitly describes the fulfilment of the Prophet’s prediction: people possessing this intense attachment to him did indeed appear after his death and have continued to appear. It is wonderful to claim that we are among the people whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) foretold. But the evidence of that love is not merely emotion; it is how faithfully his Sunnah shapes our character and conduct.
Conclusion
These ahadith speak directly to us across fourteen centuries. The Prophet (peace be upon him) foretold a generation who would believe in him without seeing him, love him without meeting him and remain devoted to his way. Today, as his message reaches across the globe, we are witnessing the remarkable fulfilment of his words: he was speaking about people like us.
But this is not simply an honour to celebrate; it is a responsibility to shoulder. We inherited an extraordinary treasure, faithfully carried through generations of companions, scholars, teachers and parents. Now it is our turn to preserve it, live it and pass it on.
We never saw his blessed face, heard his voice or prayed behind him. Yet we believe in him and love him. The challenge is to prove that love through our lives, worship and conduct. The Messenger (peace be upon him) spoke lovingly of the believers who would come after him. We have now arrived. The question is: are we worthy of the beautiful description he gave us?
